Just days after LGBT groups joined activist groups of color to protest laws that penalize immigrants and people of color, the country’s largest Latino civil rights organization unanimously passed a resolution in support of marriage equality. Eric Rodriguez, vice president of public policy for the National Council of La Raza, told the Washington Blade that there was very little opposition to the vote, which came just weeks after the NAACP passed a similar measure.
Rodriguez told the Blade that La Raza members believe “that marriage equality is consistent with the mission—the civil rights mission—of our organization.” The group will announce the resolution formally during next month’s annual convention in Las Vegas.
In addition to La Raza, the Blade notes that the Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund president Thomas A. Saenz has backed same-sex marriage and the Texas chapter of the League of United Latin American Citizens voted to support marriage equality recently as well, recent changes indicative of the growing support for same-sex marriage among Latinos.

Source:One thing that I think people for seem to either forget or just be totally ignorant of is the basic concept that someone’s gender and sex are two entirely separate things. Your sex is how you were born, or what is between your legs. Your gender is how you identify, or what is between your ears.
The concept in and of itself is not a difficult one, but gender and sex seem to be so intertwined that they are almost indistinguishable from one another. That makes it especially hard for members of the trans* community, or for anyone who doesn’t fall on the gender binary, such as genderqueer people. When they try to express themselves for who they are, they are met with confusion, or even animosity simply for wanting to be themselves without fear of ridicule or attack.
The same happens with anyone who doesn’t follow a monogamous, heteronormative lifestyle. If you’re not straight, then you are bullied and ridiculed or even attacked. If you happen to follow a non-monogamous lifestyle with your partner or partners, you’re told that you’re disgusting or weird or immoral. This idea of “You must follow the herd and do as we do, lest ye be cast out” is ridiculous, and honestly annoys me.
The way I see it, as long as all participants are of age and willing, then there is nothing wrong with a non-monogamous relationship, and there is especially nothing wrong with not being straight. Hell I’m not straight, I’m pansexual. For those of you making frying pan puns, stop it. That’s a bad reader. No! Bad! You go to the shame corner.
I just happen to follow the saying “Live and let live”. Just because something is not to my taste, does not make it bad or wrong. I don’t have to like it for someone else to get off on it. I just hope that people can let others live their lives without trying to tell them that their lifestyle is wrong if they are not harming anyone. Let’s try to treat each other with a modicum of respect and dignity, if you please.
Yours,
The Polite Madman

Great news: CeCe was finally released on bail! We want to thank everyone who donated and fundraised to meet bail–it was a big accomplishment to get CeCe out, and we couldn’t have done it without tremendous support. Of course, getting her out is just a step along the way, and we anticipate huge fundraising needs over the next several months. Please consider donating or organizing a fundraiser, or both! We have three areas of immediate need in terms of fundraising:
- Several individuals loaned us large amounts of money in order to bail CeCe out, and we’re hoping to raise enough money to pay them back as quickly as possible;
- We need to raise funds to offset the costs of legal defense going forward, to ensure that CeCe has the best possible chance in a court system where the odds are stacked against her;
- And we continue to incur logistical costs related to building CeCe’s support, and are drawing on limited resources.
Click here for details on how to donate.
And don’t forget to come out to CeCe’s hearing tomorrow (Thurs, Oct. 6). Make sure CeCe has a room full of supporters behind her when she makes her next appearance!
When: Thursday, Oct 6; Gather at 12:30 pm, hearing at 1:30
Where: Public Safety Facility, Room 142, 401 S 4th Ave, MplsLastly, CeCe wants to express her gratitude for all the letters and books she received while in jail. While these things are no longer needed, we hope you’ll continue to show your support for her through fundraising, spreading the word about her case, and coming to local support events.

TRIGGER WARNING: Hate crime against a trans man
19 year old transman violently attacked for being trans
19-year-old transman, James Alexander, was violently attacked for being trans yesterday morning while going for a walk in his neighborhood. To get to his destination, he had to walk past the house of a girl he was once interested in who had turned him down in the past (saying that “she can’t be with him because he’s not a real man” and that “she’d consider him IF he had a penis.”, and also calling him a “faggot”.), but he didn’t think anything of it, as he’s lived in the area for three years. He certainly wasn’t expecting what was to come.
As he walked past the house of the girl, she came out, and told him she wanted to talk to him. James stopped, to be polite, and because he figured he’d let her say what she needed to say. She asked him if he is a man, to which he said “Yes.”. She then told him to prove he’s a man. He told her off, and began to walk away. As he was walking away, he felt someone grab the back of his shirt. The person spun him around to face them, and he discovered that it was the girls six-foot-five, 25-year-old boyfriend, Mark. Mark yelled in his face and also told him to prove he was a guy. James told him to back off, and shoved him away. Both the girl and Mark called James a “faggot”, and he began to cry. The two of them then proceeded to make fun of James for crying, saying “Oh look, the little girl is crying”. James started to walk away again, as Mark approached him and punched him in the face, right in the eye.. and continued hitting him repeatedly, while laughing, because James was crying.
James, who is significantly smaller than Mark, at five-foot-eight, and is not a violent person at all, defended himself as best he could, and got away.. but not before he sustained injuries to his face and hand, as well as psychological trauma.
James’ mother called the police, and also had him take photos of his injuries.. but it would seem that Mark is not going to be charged, after all. James explains, “It’s his word against mine. He has his mom, his girl, and three other people saying he didn’t do anything.. so even though I have a broken face and can’t physically stop crying or shaking, he is just getting a warning. I’m pressing charges, but he won’t be arrested. Just told to go to court on a certain day I guess.”
The bottom line is that he was attacked for a specific reason; for being trans. That qualifies what happened to him as a hate crime. This was a violent transphobic attack, and the guy who did this to this 19 year old transman, needs to be charged and convicted accordingly. It’s unfortunate that they won’t arrest Mark.. but I do hope that once this goes to court, he’s punished. He shouldn’t be able to just get away with this. Too many times has an incident like this happened, and the attacker gone free. It’s time we (transgender individuals) started being taken seriously when things like this happen to us.
If anyone who is reading this knows of any resources that could help James to ensure his attacker is convicted (legal counsel for trans people, etc), he can be contacted at ericjames1302@yahoo.com.
Also, if you’re a journalist who would like to write about this, I encourage you to do so, as increasing awareness about this incident is very important. There needs to be a huge public outcry about this. This boy needs all the support he can get. Then, maybe something will be done.
Once again, James can be contacted at ericjames1302@yahoo.com.I hate knowing that these kind of crimes are going on unpunished. :(
this makes me so sad..and so ..furious.
signal boost, hopefully someone has resources or information that could help?
Signal boost to share the reality of violence he had to face just for being himself, and hopefully someone experienced in law can help out or point him in the right direction?I’m sorry James, I hope someone can help, and know that we stand behind you.
Source: yourkpopsecretsucksHarisu is an absolute stunner and the amount of transphobia that get’s thrown at her is hideous. Seriously people- quit acting like douche-bags.For those of you who don’t know, this is Harisu. She’s a korean celebrity. She’s a woman. She’s transgender. She’s the second person in Korea to legally change her gender. She’s also a recording artist, an actress, and an author. But before all that, she is a fucking person. You don’t get to make her body, her genitals, her life, into a fucking joke. Life is hard enough for trans women, especially trans women of color, without having to deal with this snarky bullshit. You don’t get to make their existence into a joke. I think, and someone correct me if I’m wrong, that trans women of color have a 1 in 6 chance of being murdered. One in six. You know what the average person’s chances of being murdered are? I think it’s about 1 in 140. So you can shut the fuck up and sit down.
Wow, this is really horrible. Why do you fucking care about her genitals, she’s clearly not going to be interested in sharing any intimate times with anyone who made or liked this image.
