- Taken a poll on what tumblr users actually want done instead of just blithely changing things on a whim and not bothering to tell anyone about it.
I think a lot of these things are good suggestions and would love to see them implemented, but #15 really annoys me for some reason. Tumblr isn’t some democratic community in which users vote on how they’d best like the site to function. It’s a free microblogging platform. They provide the script (well, that’s debatable since we all need missing-e!, but you know what I mean), and we do our thing as far as generating content. I’ve used a number of different blogging sites over the years, and I’ve never seen one where people are pissier about the platform than this one. Perhaps its the nature of the medium, since its by far the fastest moving blogging platform, but seriously you guys! It’s fine to not like the changes and to complain about them and to contact user support in order to tell them that, but I seriously do not understand the attitude behind #15. What makes someone think that their opinion is so fucking precious that they should be consulted beforehand when a gigantic internet company decides to update its interface? And given the amount of code needed to revamp the dash, I hardly believe the change was “blithe” and “on a whim.”
